Re: HP-15bc414nq SSD Upgradable?

Re: Which ssd and 2nd Slot Ram to buy

Some computers are able to run memory in "dual channel" mode if you have 2 modules of the same size. Dual channel makes the memory about 8% faster which has a very small but noticeable impact overall. The speed increase from dual channel is not to be confused with the speed increase from additional memory. If the system is low on memory, going from 4 gigs to 12 gigs will have a major impact for the better. I usually tell people only to install same-size modules so they have dual channel operation but your motherboard will not do dual channel so mixing modules is OK. That Samsung module you ask about will be fine.

The only way on your system to have SSD + HDD is to use an optical (DVD) drive caddy. Put the SSD inside the laptop for best results and the HDD in the DVD bay caddy.

Post again if this is still not enough info or please accept as solution if it is.

Re: ZBook 15 G5 Pointing Stick (aka PointStick or TrackPoint) configuration

I didn't enable anything special for scroll mouse to work: all button actions are in their default position as it seems in your case. One difference i notice, though, is that i have an "Enable PointStick" selector above the "Pointing" and "pointing Speed slider" which i don't see in your screen shot. But then i guess the PointStick does work from what you say? Not sure whether it makes a difference but i also have the touchpad (and hence also the lower row of buttons) disabled.  Working scroll-mouse, though, might also depend on the particular applications? (e.g., for me it does work in chrome but does not work in gnu-emacs)

Upgrade SSD and RAM HP OMEN 15

Hello everyone,

I have an HP OMEN 15-ce022nf.

1.What type of DDR4 ram model I should look at to upgrade?

Is the any options to add a 3rd internal SSD ? Extra Slot perhaps?

Can I replace the 2nd HDD 7200rpm with an SSD (normal) .

The existing SSD (128gb) is what type?

I would like to upgrade that too and add may be 250gb or more.

Any suggestions with model name would much appreciated.

Finally, how can I install xindoWi after all that? The recovery partition?

Thank you so much.

Sourov.

Service Manual:

Manual

The great thing about your Omen is that servicing memory and hard drive and SSD is allowed 100% to the end user with no fear of warranty issues. Likely also true on other models but in your case HP says so in so many words. See pages 31-34 for what you can do as "Customer Self-Repair".

Memory is DDR4-2666. You have a single 8 gig module and an open slot. You could install up to 32 gigs (2 x 16 gig modules) but you will be getting more for your money and have plenty of memory if you just add one of these type of 8 gig modules to have 16 in total:

Memory module (DDR4, 2666-Mhz)
8 GB   937236-850

Inside the laptop now you have a 2.5 inch 7200 rpm hard drive which can be replaced by a 2.5 inch  SATA SSD as a straightup replacement.

Your 128 gig SSD is one of the new "gumstick" type "M.2" SSD disks. You can install the latest and greatest and fastest kind called NVME. Like this:

There is no space inside the laptop for any kind of third storage disk...not even by using a DVD drive caddy. This is what it looks like in there:

15ceOmen.jpgM.2 slot circled in red

You can plainly see the M.2 "gumstick" slot, the hard drive and the RAM slots in the above picture.

Many ways to reinstall Windows 10. Your license is basically saved in the BIOS so you need no Key Code as in prior versions of Windows and there is a site called "Media Creation Tool" where you download a copy of Windows 10 for reinstallation for free. HP also has an app installed that will let you make a bootable thumb drive that will restore the original factory image onto a new blank drive or we can help you to "clone" from your existing drives to a new drive.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

One is Intel and one is AMD so the fans are not going to be interchangeable. The speakers will and the wifi card may or may not be. The parts you need are not expensive and unless you are getting the "donor" unit for like $50 or less you can maybe do better by getting the actual parts you need individually.

Thanks about answer.I have another question. What about the IPS of the screen? Can i buy a screen with IPS?At this moment the laptop does not have IPS screen.

In plane switching also called UWVA (ultra wide viewing angle) yes as long as the screen is the same size and has mounting holes and the attachment cable (30 pin vs. 40 pin) is the same you can install an IPS screen. The HP Part number is not IPS so it would take a bit more research and part selection savvy. Fortunately for you, I have replaced dozens of laptop screens maybe a couple hundred and consider myself to be pretty good at finding screens that will work. Do you want to see what can be found out there?

Ah I see. I've looked on Ebay not sure what fan I need for my motherboard. Be so easy if I knew the spares part numbers without having to disassemble the laptop

What if I was to swap out the entire motherboard and fan, the donor laptop is an i5 2.6ghz which I'm pretty sure is faster than my current processor

The donor laptop is less than $50

Battery swollen. spectre x360

Hi,

I have HP spectre x360 13, 2015. It was bought in the september of 2015 and everything (beside crackling sound from headhones sometimes) was great.

Recently something happend, I saw that the laptop is somehow bent. I decided to look into it and I opened back panel of my laptop to see what is causing the problem.

To my big surprise the battery was swollen. It is almost 3 times as big as it was before.

It happened to me before, I had same problem on my NVIDIA Shield tablet and I got it replaced for free.

So I started a research and I found out that there was problem with some batteries in HP laptops and there is recall on defected batteries. So I contacted local HP centre in Czech Republic. They told me to download and install HP battery validation utility, so I did. To my big surprise the program showed that the battery is OK.

I contacted local HP again with my results and they have told me that they can not do anything about it because I no longer have warranty.

I do not know what to do, so my question is.

Why I can not get my battery to be replaced when it is clearly a defected? Is this intentional so I have to buy new laptop again? What shoud I do next? Has anyone run into the same problem, how did you resolved it?

Thank you.

So it doesn't matter if I try again for disassembling and installing the SSD again!
is there a chance that the SSD itself corrupted?!

Is simple to just plug in a USB wired keyboard. That will work. Just ignore the internal keyboard.

confusion over max RAM/memory supported by DDR3L dual channel

$

Hi all. I've done a ton of research and initially believed the max RAM my laptop could support was 8GB and that it was a single port. I also was under the impression that DDR3 is always single port and that dual ports are DDR4. I don't know where I got that info because now I see my the user guide says:

2 SODIMM slots DDR3L-1600
Support for DDR3L-1600
Support for dual channel
Supports up to 16384-MB maximum on-board system memory

Regardless, I recently upgraded the original 4GB memory to 8GB, and once I (finally) reached the memory slot(s), I noticed something that looked like a 2nd empty one right by it. My memory slot was white and said "1.5V DDR3 REV" on the left and "foxconn" on the right. The black slot I left empty said "4.0S" on the left and "LTK" on the right.

Do I actually have dual ports? If I wanted to add another 8GB, would I actually need to get *two* new DDR4L 8G modules, since I bought a DDR3L? Can anyone tell me what my max supported RAM is? ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE *SO* APPRECIATED.

You can refer to page 29 in the User Guide for the list of SSD Hard drives and the Part Nos that have been tested with the Notebook

The SSD Hard drive you are inquiring about seems to be compatible but we cannot guarantee the functionality or performance since it has not been tested
