HP X2 Detachable EMMC Harddrive Upgrade

Dear Sir/Madam,

Good day to you,

One & half year ago I bought a HP Pavilion X2-10-n202nt. Due to my opinion  "HP" was the biggest PC producer in the world and  knows PC/laptop biz very well .

But I was failed in my opinion because the laptop/tablet  is already using 2/3 of its 32GB eMMC hard drive for windows 10.

I just formatted the laptop again and there is not any installed program in it except windows 10, however  at the moment it can not get a single windows 10 update due to eMMC hard drive space.

We (I think there are lots of HP X2 detachable users ) are suffering from the same problem because our new brand HP product became a simple "TRASH" within a year....

And I m very very surprised that how that HP can produce this kind of product like a simple /unkown brand?

We as users may not know if 32 gb eMMC is enough for windows 10 or not and also how much space of it that Win 10 using, but HP should know it. And I learned that there is not a way to upgrade the eMMC drive for HP X2 detachable.

So waiting your commets on it and hope you can advise a solution to fix this problem...

Hi,

When you searched to purchase the hinges did you perform search with the part number? This is the part you are looking for 720238-001 which you can see on page 3 of service manual.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04091762

I do not know whih country you are in, they are available in HP parts store in the US.

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=6635C1C9817543CA858439B38C7726D2&SearchIn=PartNumber&SearchPN=720238-001

However I would search online and find them for a lot cheaper or let us know what country you are in and we can try to help.

are the screws which hold the hinge into the top cover still there. are the base screw holders still intact? (page 64 of service manual)

Maybe these HP videos can help in any repairs you need to perform:

Re: Synaptics Clickpad not working properly in Windows 10

Hi,

Thank you for your quick reply!

  • When was the last time the click pad was working fine?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

I think 2 weeks ago. Then I used Windows system restore and install new drivers for the touchpad. It worked well for a few days. Now the touchpad as well as the clickpad stop working after a few hours (I have to click several times before it actually clicks and then it stops working)

Can you share a screenshot of the click pad?

  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer? No.

HI, I basicaly have the same issue bu with a diffrent laptop

Mine is the Elitebook 755 G3 which does have an NFC chip according to seller and product datasheet (I'm considering opening it to check but i don't think thats the problem).

I'm using Windows 10 PRO OS v1709 (Fairly recent in january 2018) there are no more update available as of now.

I updated the BIOS, now "msinfo" shows : Ver 01.22, 11/12/2017.

I updated NXP's drivers from HP's website.

No option can be enabled in BIOS, apps form windows store shows nothing, no NFC available in "Settings" when i turn on airplane mode, everythig is up to date in the device manager.

In device manager i see "NXP's ProximityBase SmartCard Reader" but it is up to date.

I tried putting diffrent tags on the trackpad and tranfering URL from my phone nothing happens...

I would guess we have the same problem i'll post if i find something i would appreciate if you do it too.

Thank you,

I am not going to disagree but keep in mind these units were sold at prices below the cost of production because of subsidies. Also, the size of the storage was mentioned. HP was not the only manufacturer offering these units (Lenovo also sold lots of them) so you cannot equate HP quality with a feature of the computer that was not hidden from anyone.

Having said that  I will acknowledge these little units are a problem. All you can really do is insert an SD card permanently and mount it as a storage drive like D:\. Move the "Library" (docs, pics, downloads, videos) files to it and follow some disk space management practices like minimize the virtual memory (swap) space, turn off hibernation and put any Store apps on the SD card. You can also download the updates to the D:\ (SD) so their mere storage does not take up space.

If you are only using 2/3 of the 32 gigs you are way ahead of most people who completely run out of space.

Happy to discuss further if you wish.

Is the hard drive caddy needed only if you want to mount your old SSD in the DVD-rom slot?

Bob"

Hi Bob, yes you only need the hard drive caddy if you plan to mount your old HD or SSD in the DVD bay.

If you plan on using your SSD externally, you will need either a docking station, external enclosure, or a sata to usb adapter. I would recommend an external enclosure if there is any potential for the circuitry to become exposed to potential shorts to any metal objects, as that can potentially destroy both your SSD and your machine.

Re: hdd noise

Hi,

It is normal for hard drives to make some clicking/scratching sounds. Some drives make more noise than others. On most computers I use there is some noise.

Naturally it should not be too loud because in such a case something is obviously wrong.

Hope it helps,

David

I have used this computer very little but it stopped charging the battery. The power supply is working properly. Can I get a new battery and change it myself?  Also, he 32 GB hard drive will not support anything. I had to delete and uninstall everything just to update my Windows 10. Can the hard drive be upgraded to a much large capacity hard drive?

Hi!

I have exactly the same problem. My older Spctre x360 hinges are much better than my new 13" spectres hinges where they both are mislined and very loose. Should I send my laptop to service or what?

Kind regards,

Tapio

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
