Elitebook 850 G3 has SATA or NVMe M2 slot?

$

Hello everyone,

I have HP EliteBook 850 G3, SKU Number: T9X18EA#BED (is it product number?) Product Serial Number: [Personal Information Removed]

I am almost positive that M2 slot inside my laptop has SATA connection and not NVMe. Can anyone tell me if Im wrong?

I watched some videos and saw some pictures of SATA and NVMe slots and when I opened my laptop the slot looked like NVMe, according to pin positions on the connector.

Can someone elaborate on this and perhaps tell me if I have NVMe based on my product number, maybe?

Hi,

What is the version of your CTO ? For Intel machines, you need to remove

  • two Phillips PM2.5×12.0 screws
  • two Phillips PM2.0×2.0 screws
  • six Phillips PM2.5×6.5 screws
  • nine Phillips PM2.5×6.5 screws

Is it still under warranty ? If yes then it is better off to go for a pro because the manual implies this would void warranty.

Regards.

Re: Broken Hinge on HP Envy 15t Quad

I am having the same issue.  My laptop was purchased in January 2014, but I have been dealing with the hinge problem for over a year now.  At first it was just the left hinge but has recently expanded to be both and the casing is being significantly pulled apart when opening and closing.  My laptop has been taken excellent care of and never dropped or had any damage to it.  I called HP support and got given the estimate of an absurd $379.99 + taxes.

Has anyone had any simliar experiences or any advice on how to approach this? $400 for an HP design flaw seems to be an outrageous price, especially after seeing that many people have had it repaired out of warranty for free (which they should do for anyone as it is seemingly not the users fault).

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Omen 15 notebook. I understand that you are unable to play For Honor game on your notebook and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Please provide me the product number of your computer.

Meanwhile:

Check if this game is compatible with your notebook.

  • For Honor requires a GTX 1060 or AMD R9 280x graphics card.
  • 8GB RAM and an Intel i5-2500K quad core or an FX-8350 processor.

Let me know with the above details for further assistance.

Cheers.

Thanks for the quick reply; yes, I have the Intel version. Its warranty expired in August. I think I saw the part of the manual you're talking about, which is part of why I'm posting here before making any further attempts. If they weren't OK with people taking it apart though, why would they included detailed instructions on how to do so?

My Spectre (x360 13-4003dx) just failed yesterday (purchased June 2015). Not planning to open the unit to verify the capcitor melt down, but the symtoms are the same. Curious what repair options would be recommended. Also, wondering if this is a design flaw and this will be a common problem at this age for this device. I have loved it up to now, but this is dissappointing.

I would like to increase my ram to 16 gigs. Currently I have 6 gigs. I have intel core (tm)  i5 m460@2.53 ghz.

System board 163d 65.38. Bios f29.

What would be the best to purchase?

I have seen similar failure reports and photos, so yes I think it is a design or component flaw. There is a white label on the motherboard that reads "replace with HP Spare ..." that is directly over the failure point. You will find photos on the Internet (inclidung Amazon) with holes melted in this lable from the heat generated from the failure.

The hole in my label was small, but I seen others failures that are much more dramatic. See the red rectangle in the photo below. BTW, that M.2 SSD is located just above the label in this photo (the connector of the M.2 SSD is shown in this photo). The failed capacitor is directly below the hole on the label.

I can not boot my computer.  I tried to restore from a recovery point and got an error message about the C: drive. I tried doing a Repair Disk process and that did not work.

I ran diagnostics on the hard drive and received the following failure code:

PLNFPR-6RH8J4-MFGJWK-60SD03

thank you very much for blazing fast answer!

You made me happy telling me I can put inside M2 PCIe NVMe disc, and if you tell me that I can make it 1st bootable device and install system on it there will be no end to my luck

LoL

Can I use M2 PCIe NVMe SSD as my system drive?

I am waiting for my laptop to arrive, I dont have it in my hands and Im having trouble finding all these answers on the internet, but luckily I came to the right place ;-)

Have you replaced or added batteries to your laptop in the past? or is this the first time?

If the battery has been installed as you've mentioned, did you try performing a battery calibration?Click here for details, if you haven't.

Meanwhile, I will need a screenshot of the secondary battery and how you've got it connected to the PC so that I may help you in a better way.

For instructions on replacing existing batteries, etc...Check your user manual/service guide: Click here

Let me know how that pans out,

BTW, the other possible failure is one of the wires on the power connector inside the unit breaks. This is a relatively easily fix ($24 USD part), but you cannot tell what the specific failure is without opening the rear cover.

There are 2 parts in the book: the first part is for people like you and me and the second part is for HP Authorized Service Provider parts
