I want more storage in my notebook so I am looking to add another SSD if possible, or if not then to replace the current SSD with a larger one, has anyone added an extra SSD, do I have a second M.2 slot or can I add a standard SSD? Thanks

Re: HP 15s-fq0008na Storage Upgrade
Hi,
It is not possible to add another SSD, there is only one slot. So, you will need to replace the 512GB PCIe M2 SSD with a larger capacity one. You can go for the "best" which would be the Samsung 970 Evo Plus or slower and much cheaper Crucial P1 or any other brand you prefer. There is no limit to capacity.
On page 31 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive.
You will then need to reinstall the OS on the SSD which you can do by performing a clean install
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
or using HP cloud recovery

Change the memory capacity of the integrated video card
Integrated Radeon vega 10 graphics card
It is shown that the video card uses only 1 gb of RAM, but the specification states that it can take 2gb.
In BIOS, I can only configure up to 512 MB, how can I increase to 2gb?
Re: upgrade Video Card
Hi,
No, it is not possible to upgrade the graphics, there is no slot and no option to install a video card.
Hope it helps,
David
Re: Ram upgrade, graphics card
The RAM is DDR4 2400 and the HP part number, if you buy it from HP, is . However you can also purchase that RAM at Crucial here. As for the video, the GPU is integrated on the motherboard and cannot be upgraded. Actually for that model I believe the 940MX was the only GPU option.
what options do i have for installation of a sdd
hi there, i just wanna install a sdd in my laptop so have i got a m.2 port in my HP notebook - 15ay503tu, or do i have to install a caddy or get the hard disk replaced??
Re: My ENVY 15's hp DVDRAM GU90N DVD RW Drive Does Not Work
So what happens if you insert say the Windows disk and try to boot from it?
Re: what options do i have for installation of a sdd
Here is the Service Manual:
The main takeaway: no M.2 slot on the motherboard. To have an M.2 would require a special caddy/adapter and cable like this:
M.2 adapter
Easier, cheaper, just as fast to just replace the standard 2.5 inch hard drive with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD such as Samsung Evo 860 or any one of a lot of good products on the market (Sandisk, WD, Crucial, etc.,). If you need more help post back and if this is the info you needed please accept as solution.
Re: what options do i have for installation of a sdd
can i have both the drives, the hard disk and a 250 / 512 gb sdd

looking for optimal RAM type on HP omen 15-ce005ur
Good day. I want to uprgrade my laptop and need to choose best RAM on my laptop motherboard 838F 40.28.
I am practicing rendering and video editing, so sometimes the RAM is not sufficient and the whole system freezes (just 8GB).
I have been making research on the subject and the only things i can be sure is that i have to buy 2 memories instead of 1 (with higer capacity), and that have to be preferably both whit the same caracteristics. But, i'm not sure about model, type and after all, i'm newbie in this.
And, i wnat to add SSD in my laptop. But again, i am not sure about model and specific type. There is no any SSD in my laptop right now.
Looking for help. Best regards, Makhm.
attaching 2 monitors to HP Folio 9470M
My laptop is seeing a second monitor but the # of the monitor is grayed out and not picking up a signal. I tried the second monitor by itself, and it works
Re: what options do i have for installation of a sdd
Hi,
It is not possible to install an M2 SSD as there is no slot. What you can do is replace the Hard Drive with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. You can get of your preferred brand and capacity. It will give a great boost to the everyday performance of the PC.
Example:
On page 44 of service manual you can see the steps to replace the drive
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06189781
You can then perform a clean install of Windows 10
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
or HP cloud recovery
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205
or you could clone the old drive to the new SSD. You will need a USB to SATA cable

Use Dedicated grafic card through usb-c 4k 60 HZ
Hi, i usually use my HP 15-cs2013ns with a 4k 60hz screen, conected with HDMI 2.0 cable. Since this aptop has an integrated 620 intel gpu and a nvidia 1050gtx i'm don't know if it is possible to connect an external screen through USB-C using the nvidia card. The question is, Can i use a compatible 4k 60hz uscb-c hub when executing a game with the nvidia gtx card? I'm not sure if the kind of usb-c equiped in this laptop supports this feature since this is not a USB-C PD.
Re: Spare LCD screen for HP Spectre x360 13-14001ng
@The_Fossette
Thanks a lot for your kind response.
I have already tried to contact HP support during the last two weeks. In Germany and in the UK.
First of all I must say that the technical support people at HP so far I have come across are extremely friendly, competent and are willing to help to their utmost.
But, unfortunately, as I learned the said HP Spectre X360, Model:13-4001ng is no longer under support at HP and thus HP technical support cannot help with repair. I was informed that for private users, the spare screen is available on the market but not from HP. What a pity.
I am an engineer and am quite capable of dismantling the old screen and replace it with the new one. Provided of course if only I could get one
I got contact details of HP authorised dealers ( I think 5 in total) in Germany from HP Website.
Now hold tight, one of them can get me a new spare screen for "bare" 1180€. Mind you the new laptop cost was 1280€ (including screen 😊). Two other vendors can offer the same screen for 540€ + 19% VAT amounting to a total of ca. 650€ end price - not including shipment. Whereas the first offer could easily be classified as "Usury" the two other offers are not a bargain either.
I am quite willing to pay 250- 300€ for a spare screen, But prices like 650€ or even 1180€ are beyond any notion of good and evil. Unfortunately, this is the second time I am having this support experience on HP products from HP - i.e. no service!!
I wonder if HP management is aware of what is happening with their products. This business practice of stopping repair service or not supplying spare parts even for high-end products like HP Spectre X360 convertible after 4-5 years to private users is certainly not very good for business in the long term.
Actaully, I am a great fan of HP products. Over the last 15 - 20 years I have purchased multiple Desktops, Laptops, Multifunctional colour laser jet printers etc. directly from HP. But after this 2nd "no service" experience I am seriously thinking if there are better alternatives than HP.
Having said all this, I must repeat that I have no complaint against HP support people whatsoever.
As mentioned they are very friendly, technically competent and usually go out of ther way to help as much as they can.
But unfortunately they are bound by the company policy and this where the company product marketing and/or top management may reflect on its current support (repair/sapre parts) policy for private users.
Sorry, what I have said above may sound like exaggerated frustration. but unfortunately this is the brutal the truth.
Thanks once again for you help. I really appreciate it very much.
I am still searching but in parallel, if you know of a source where I can buy a spare screen (HP part nr. 801496-001) for up to 300€ I would be very much interested.
Best regards
User071

Hi,
The notebook supports max 32GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM (2x16GB) even if service manual mentions 16GB
You can get from your preferred brand. You can also use 2x8GB witout peoblems.

Re: what options do i have for installation of a sdd
cant i just replace the optical cd drive with a caddy and have a sdd installed
Re: what options do i have for installation of a sdd
Yes, you can do this. I usually just replace the Hard Drive with a large capacity SSD. So, you have no spinning drive in the notebook.
If you choose to go with caddy, you should install the SSD where the Hard Drive is at the moment and put the old hard drive in the caddy. Reinstall the OS on the SSD.
Hope it helps,
David
