Re: ZBook Studio G5 - Thunderbolt controller is not recognized by the system

Hello,

I can confirm the issue in HP ZBook Studio x360 G5.
After installing the latest intel chipset driver  (sp91957, version 10.1.17695.8086 Rev.A)  thunderbolt stops working and dissappears from the device manager.
Changing the hotplug mode to native + low power in BIOS helps, but I can't use it as I use eGPU  Gigabyte Aorus Gaming Box which is not recognized in this mode.
Downgrading the bios to 01.04.05 Rev.A didn't help

HP 15-BP152WM USB-C Thunderbolt Port charge & monitor question

I recently received this HP 15-BP152WM as a gift from family. Tried to connect with my setup and run into some problems:

My monitor is DELL U3818DW that I'm using their USB-C cable to stream from laptop to monitor screen and charge at the same time for both of the Macbook Pro 13 2018 and XPS 9350 (this one was 3-4 years old).

The new HP laptop only stream (it freeze a couple time, need to unplug and re-plug and USB-C cable) and didn't take any charge, only charge with the power plug it came with.

The  Macbook Pro 13 2018 charger (61W) didn't work with my HP 15-BP152WM also.

I can not find any topic relate to this problem, my model was a Walmart exclusive.

Any other way that I can make it work with my "one cable" setup?

Thank you for your time,

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Johnny

Regarding the parts catalog, I would suggest SSD should be compatible on your notebook. However this seems to be an issue with the connector.

In this scenario, I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.

HP support team can be reached on this link

Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

Take care and have a great day!

Cheers 🙂

No the USB-C port on your laptop is not "Power Delivery" or Thunderbolt. It does carry a Displayport 1.2 signal as you have seen so it can drive one or more external monitors. However, while the MacBook Pro has a Power Delivery USB-C port, your HP does not so it can only be charged using the type of barrel adapter that was provided in the box.

Not exactly but there is good news. See the Service Manual here:

Service Manual

Start on p. 38 to remove bottom cover and inside you see this:

15da.jpgM.2 SSD slot circled in red

You can have the original hard drive PLUS an M.2 (not mSATA) SSD. It can be either a SATA or PCIe/NVME type. Of those, you want NVME as multiple times faster.

You will need to move the Windows installation over to the new SSD but we can help with that if needed.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Hey there! ,

I have checked the specifications of the laptop and it can support a maximum of 12GB of memory. Please find the part for memory listed below.

The 4GB memory is fixed to the system board, So you can add another 8gb of maximum memory to the laptop.

8GB, 2400MHz, PC4-17000, 1.2v DDR4 SODIMM 862398-855

Note: Primary and expansion memory is installed in a side-by-side conƭguration at the bottom of the computer. If only one memory module is installed, it must be installed in the socket labelled 1.

Description Spare part number
8-MB, DDR4-2400, 1.2-V 862398-855
4-MB, DDR4-2400, 1.2-V 862397-855
2-MB, DDR4-2133, 1.2-V 864271-855

Refer the laptop user guide to know more information about memory replacement.  Click Here

Note: Refer page 43 for more information.

Refer the product specifications page for more information. Click Here

You can order the part from HP parts store using this link. Click Here

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

In order to check the compatibility, I would recommend you go through the Maintenance and service guide of your notebook. Here you will find the list of parts which are tested and compatible on your PC.

According to the Maintenance and service guide it shows that your PC support NVMe interface.

Chapter 1. Product Description - Page number - 2

Chapter 3. Illustrated Parts catalog - Page number - 17 (spare part number)

Please note, these are the parts which are tested on your PC, If you wish to try other parts you can try it at your own discretion, HP Doesn't recommend any upgrade/downgrade of any hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product. It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance.

Alternatively, You could replace the part on your own, use the HP Partsurfer to identify the part: Click here & order it via the HP Parts store (Click here).

Let me know if this helps!

Have a great day ahead!

Re: G1 Motherboard Compatibility with HP Spectre 360 13-4002dx

Not even. If you look at the two laptops the 13-4000 has ports on the side. The Spectre Pro G1 has only USB-C Thunderbolt ports on the back. Also just looking at the diagram of the two motherboards they are shaped nothing alike. Not sure how they plan to configure the swap.

If you want to keep using the 13-4000 the best thing is to send the motherboard to a chip-level repair shop. Several have long running "auctions" on eBay and we have a few specific suggestions and prior success stories. Cost runs $100-150 which is I am sure much less than Herr von Braun and the other rocket scientists at your repair shop want to charge you.

I want to buy the HP pavilion 15-cw1063wm with AMD Ryzen 5 processor, so I want to know if it has an upgradable RAM slot because it came just with 8 Gb of RAM

Yes it has one slot occupied and one empty. See pages 32-33 and 50 here:

Service Manual

It's DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM. The Manual says 16 gigs (2 x 8 gigs) is max but proven that Ryzen models will run 2 x 16 = 32 although whether you need that much is debatable depending on how you use the computer. 98% of users get by fine with 16 and probably 75% get by fine with 8.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Thanks!  The place I have the computer at is reputable - they were the ones that saw that a previous repair shop had botched an attempted fix that took out that part of the motherboard so they can't do component repair at this point.  I can't get the original shop to own up to their failure - they didn't charge me anything and since the computer wasn't working anyway, it's impossible to prove that they were the culprits.  The shop now didn't have time to do the comparison, so I told them I'd take a stab at trying to find out.  Anyway, I appreciate your feedback and looks like I'll have to go motherboard hunting somewhere else... 🙂

Can't be that cheap and it is not going to work. You need new a System board with all available specs as shown on page 56 the following manual

   http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04886216.pdf

Note: System board will have (a) Motherboard, (b) CPU/Processor (c) Video card and (d) Operating system that why is is very expensive.

The specs of your machine is

Hi All,

I baught an elitebook 840 G1(core i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD). I was told that I could install an SSD on another slot, however, the seller said only 32GB of SSD can be installed. If I want to get a greater ssd i have to get sata ssd and replace my hdd hard drive. How correct is this? And are there ssd's greater than 32GB for elitebook 840G1
