Just to let anyone know that may want to upgrade the I5 CPU in this laptop to an I7-3630qm, it is possable, I have successfully done the upgrade, stock cooler is fine with using a good quality thermal CPU paste, temps watching full screen video around 45c and system is very stable

Thanks for your reply, what i found the solution for me that worked was a fresh install of Windows 10 , i used the new 1903 version of windows 10 and now i can accses the NVIDIA control panel using the drivers that windows 10 loaded during install

excellent fix when I found the files in file explorer. the Browse for driver window was difficult to navigate but a piece of cake after extraction. Graphics in my games seem smoother in play. Maybe my AMD E-6010 R2 graphics processer will benefit from this AMD system driver. uninstalled BT driver and found old Nero programs and MacAfee stuff that was hiding out. Hard to find all software parts to uninstall all programs. thanks for the fix. this HP community site is easy compared to Microsoft community site. i'll use this site soon.

There was a warning which you ignored then you smelled burning and you have to ask whether it could have blown the motherboard? Can you tell us exactly which Apple product you plugged in? Was it powering the laptop as well as acting as a hub? HP does make powered USB-C and thunderbolt port replicators with power delivery and we can likely find you something you can use. Identifying the exact model of the laptop would also be helpful.

Upgrade RAM
I have just bought this computer, which has 8gb of Ram and would like to add 8 more.
There are two modules of 4gb and I would to change to 2 of 8gb, 16gb being the max
Where can I get this done as HP seems not to have any facility to do this as far as I can see.?
I am in the UK. The PDF says that there are no user serviceable parts but it seems easy enough to do, but I don't want to null the warranty just yet.
The memory modules are Memory module,
8 GB
862398-855.
As I say i cannot find anywhere on the HP UK site how to go about this and just go round in circles.

Start on p. 31 for instructions to open the laptop and inside there is this:
The slot in the purple oval can accept a PCIe/NVME M.2 SSD aka a "gumstick" type SSD which can be used in addition to the generous 2 TB 5400 rpm mechanical hard drive already installed. There is no capacity limit for the M.2 SSD.
2 TBs are available but pricey:

Re: Last night HP ID Support notified me of four attempts to gain access to my HP account.
Just ignore it. I even get a call last week from people from National network who told me: they need to fix my line (including disable my old analog phone) and they wanted to fix from my computer remotely.
I told them to fix at their end, not from my computer.
