Re: HP Active Pen 1MR94AA#ABL Can not be paired with Envy x360 bq0xx Windows 10

My experience of using HP Pavilion X360 15-cr0xxx serie and another compatible HP Active Pen 1MR94AA/Microsoft Universal Pen standard

I have HP Pavilion X360 15-cr0xxx series, updated to latest BIOS, drivers etc.. According to HP web site, the digitiser screen works with two HP Pens (using Microsoft Universal Pen standard) : 1MR94AA and 2MY21AA. So, I bought a compatitble OEM one for about US$22 from AliExpress, seemed to work straight away with the defaults Windows 10 Windows Ink, namely, one button to select and one button to erase.

However, I have installed the HP Pen Control sp80343.exe from your (a previous poster on this thread) link to FTP site today (because Windows App Store said my laptop was not compatible). This OEM pen seems to work fine. For example, I used this App and changed to top button to act as "Windows Start Key", and it worked, pressed button with pen nib touching the screen opened Windows Start.

(For others reading this, the HP Support Web site for HP Pavilion X360 15-cr0xxx series links to https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05478395  (but when I went to Windows App Store, it said my HP Pavilion X360 15-cr0xxx was not compatible, so I could not install from Windows App Store! So, use the FTP site for the HP Pen Control sp80343.exe )

For convenience this HP Pen Control sp80343.exe works with:-

HP Spectre x360 Convertible
HP Pavilion x360 15 Convertible
HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible
HP ENVY x360 15m Convertible
HP Pavilion x360 11 Convertible
HP Pavilion x360 11m Convertible
HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible
HP Pavilion x360 14m Convertible
HP ENVY 17m
HP Spectre x2

Hi everyone, I have a question relating to my laptop's battery and hardware.

So yesterday I used my laptop on battery and when the low battery warning came up, I didn't charge it straight away. I forgot to and then my laptop powered off after about 10 minutes or so because I didn't charge it.

This had happened twice now (there's about two months apart from the first incident).

Will my laptop or the battery or all related components be okay?

Hi! ,

HP has not tested or trialled the part you have replaced on the PC. So we cannot guarantee the functionality of the product.

Please find the list of M.2 SSD supported by the PC below.

Solid-state drive (2280 M.2):
512 GB, PCIe L25329-001
512 GB, PCIe, TLC L56705-001
256 GB, SATA-3, TLC L25327-001
256 GB, PCIe L25328-001
128 GB, SATA-3, TLC L25326-001

Refer the laptop user guide for more information. Click Here

Note: Refer page 21 from the user guide to know more information.

However, you can try the steps recommended below and check if it helps.

You have to change the boot priority to M.2 in BIOS.

You need to make sure the SATA interface mode is set to AHCI in BIOS.
And in the boot section of the bios if any M.2 is listed, set it to number 2.
Or a bootable PCI-e device.

If the issue still persists after trying the above steps try the steps recommended below.

To boot from M.2 SSD try the steps recommended below.

1. F9 in Startup Menu
2. Boot from UEFI file
3. PCI needs to be listed twice
4. Click <EFI>
5. Click <Boot>
6. Should only be one option - "bootx64.efi"
7. It will boot one time with the M.2
8. Use DISKPART in CMD to remove all partitions from the old Hard drive or else it will always boot from the original drive.

Try the steps recommended below to use the diskpart command.

Use the Windows key + X keyboard shortcut to open the Power User menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Connect the drive you want clean and format to your computer.
Type the following command and press Enter:

diskpart

Type the following command to list all the available drives and press Enter:

list disk

Take your time and very carefully, on the output from the previous command, identify the drive you want to clean.

Type the following command to clean the drive and press Enter:

clean

Type the following command to double-check the drive still selected and press Enter:

list disk

If the drive still selected, you will notice an asterisk (*) next to the disk.

Type the following command to create a partition and press Enter:

create partition primary

Type the following command to select the partition you just created and press Enter:

select partition 1

Type the following command to set the partition active and press Enter:

active

Type the following command to format the partition using NTFS and to set a label, and press Enter:

format FS=NTFS label=WC-Drive quick

Remember to change the WC-Drive in the command with the drive name you want to use.

Type the following command to assign a drive letter and press Enter:

assign letter=W

Use the exit command to close DiskPart to complete the task.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day! :-)

SD Card Reader fault

Only had this laptop one day! Envy 13.3 running Win 10Pro. Just tried 3 x Micro sd cards in the reader.... none will stay in, they all either refuse to "click" in or stay in for a few seconds before pinging out and flying a couple of feet across the table! Help, I really don't want to have to send this back after spending the last day setting it up! Using SanDisk Ultra 128Gb card.

There is a small risk in 32 gigs is all I can say...zero risk in 16 gigs. I checked Crucial and this model is too new so not listed there.

I do find memory vendors selling 16 gig modules for it which is consistent with what I know:

https://www.amazon.com/Probook-Compatible-Upgrade-DDR4-2400-PARTS-QUICK/dp/B07RBLQGK7/ref=sr_1_25?keywords=Probook+445+G6&qid=1559227281&s=gateway&sr=8-25

If it were my laptop and I thought I needed 32 gigs I would not hesitate to buy 2 x 16 gig modules despite the cost as I am comfortable it will work but I can't 100% guarantee to you it will work. Hope that makes sense.

HI all

I'm facing a similar question

envisaging to purchase ca-0013 (with Ryzen 5 & Vega 8, but only 4 GB RAm & Drive 500 GB), I'm dobble-checking few things:

as to extension capabilty ...

Reading the document HP 17  Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide
I found contradictory information :

"memory is non-customer accessible/non-upgradeable" is stated ...

YET a procedure describes how to extend RAM a bit further in the doc ...

??

Could you manage finally to upgrade / extend the RAM of your laptop ?

regards

Franck

Any other suggestions besides doing laptop 101 type stuff?

This is pretty ridicioulous this fan is running at like 100% when the CPU is at 45C (I've been doing a system backup for about 4 hours and it has been at 45-47C the entire time... fan is running at like 100%... this should never be the case). I shouldn't even start to hear it until it gets around 65C and it shouldn't be getting to 65C under normal workloads... gaming, yes.

What would it take to get an update to the BIOS to address this?

I'm about to return it, but from what I've read it is a pretty systemic issue with these, so don't know if it will do any good.

We have had HP acknowledge here that it is not really possible to forbid someone on penalty of loss of warranty to upgrade memory, storage or wireless on his/her own laptop. And yet, the procedure is not what it was in the old days when laptop makers provided customer access panels to get at hard drives and memory. Those days are gone. Keep in mind the service manual is not supposed to be for the general public so it is not odd that it says "not customer upgradeable" but at the same time contains instructions to access the memory slot.

You have seen the Manual. You have to remove the rubber "feet" and open the back case to access memory slots. HP would of course prefer that this be done by an authorized technician. However, as long as you do it without damaging anything you can open the case to add memory without losing the warranty. Damage is not covered and obviously HP does not warranty your added parts.

Max memory on this model is stated to be 2 x 8 = 16 gigs of DDR4-2400 and in reality Ryzen models will work with 2 x 16 = 32 gigs.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

Power light flashing red constantly

Hi,

I have a recently refurished Elitebook 840 G1 Ultrabook, but im experiencing some problems with what seems to be the battery.

The charging light is flashing red constanly (even when the laptop is turned off), and wont turn on unless plugged into the ac adapter.

I cant seem to find the model number or product number, it might have been removed by the company that refurbished it.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the reply.  I took it to local computer repair shop and they said the power button is attached to the motherboard so to fix the problem will necessitate replacing the motherboard.  They are scouting prices for a motherboard, but it sounds like  the cost is going to be very close to the original price of the computer.  Honestly it seems like a design flaw that a power button repair would approach the cost of a new unit.

Re: Secondary HD for dv7-6xxx Pavilion notebook

Hi,

Another question arises: Is the height of the HD important? HP indicates 12.7 mm, but Western Digital for instance has a model with a height of 9 mm. I found another model (brand not shown) with SATA III 6Gb/s 128MB Cache. Is this compatible with the dv7-6070ef? It is indicated for a dv7-6070ca which has the same characteristics. As all the offers come from the US to France, I try not to have problems after buying one! Thank you for your help.

Regards.
