Hello, so I received a new laptop at work, and noticed none of the gestures work on the touchpad.  The option to use gestures doesn't show up in the Touchpad settings, and I realized the touchpad isn't even installed.  It's showing as a PS/2 compatible mouse in the device manager.  

 

Tried installing the latest drivers (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-745-g5-notebook-pc/18819802), but this did not work.  It installs, and after restarting it shows as a Synaptics touchpad in device manager, but the touchpad controls become SUPER slow and the touchpad gesture options still don't show in the settings area. 

 

At a loss as to how to get them working and appreciate any guidance anyone can offer.  I use gestures all the time and really would like to get them working again.

I have the same problem.  I don't know if my laptop is still under warranty, as I've had it for a few years, but I haven't dropped or roughly handled my laptop.  It's only a problem with the right hinge.  Any way to fix this?

Greetings,

I have a hp pavilion 15 laptop (about 5 years old) running Windows 10 and Arch Linux (dual boot). I had changed the battery with an original replacement from a HP store about 6 months ago. 

Yesterday the laptop stopped working with the battery only. Even to turn on I needed to use AC. I also get the message "plugged in not charging" in the main screen. I have tried all the steps mentioned in the support page and virtual assistant including updating the bios. But none worked. 

Please help me.

Update: Tweeted at HP support and was told to call the standard support line for an out of warranty repair. I replied back saying that as I stated in the tweet, I've already done so and told them that many people like myself bought these defective units. They have not replied.

Hi.. My battery is damaged. It runs out quickly.

I will plan a battery replacement. What is the battery type / number / part number that will compatible with my notebook?

With other notebook i can simply take off the battery and see it for myself, but since this device's battery is located in the inner case, it's  difficult for me to take it off by myself.

My Notebook is HP Pavilion 13-a048ca.

Got my Envy laptop over two years and battery is failing. Test suggests replacement. But I always run laptop on power. Can I leave a dead battery there? If not, what is the best way to pursue replacement.

This is a very old machine and it supports 4GB of DDR2 RAM max.

That slot is not for storage. You only have option to upgrade HDD to 2.5" SATA SSD.

After a few days of messaging the agent, and providing the necessary information (my three case numbers, plus a proof of purchase, which was the first email I recieved from HP after purchasing my laptop), a replacement order was requested. According to the agent, all I need to do is send in this current laptop, and once they recieve it, HP will send me a new one (along with a 1-year warranty to go with the new laptop, just in case).

 

Thank you for your help Rick. I appreciate it. Though the process was long and frustrating, I'm happy that it's all over, and that this laptop issue has been resolved.

For some unknown reason, despite working all right just a few hours ago, my 15-inch Spectre now refuses to charge my cell phone via either of the USB-C ports. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Thunderbolt drivers, which has not solved the problem. This phone has no problem charging via USB-C on any other device I own, including  MacBook Pro USB-C charger, and the Spectre itself will read the phone (that is, it recognizes it when it's plugged in), but won't charge it. Any advice as to how to solve this would be greatly appreciated; I'm traveling with only my laptop and USB-C to USB-C cable to charge my phone, and its complete failure to charge is going to pose a major problem.

I'm not really sure what community to be asking or even if I should be asking a community in-general.

 

I'm looking to buy a workstation laptop from HP or any other credible source for engineering school. It would need to have a processor with >=4 cores, a graphics card of sorts (even an MXnnn would probably suffice), >=12GB memory, and a reasonable amount of storage. The problem I'm having is that there are many laptops that HP offers that have these features, but most of them have extra features that would be put to waste i.e. touch-screen, 4K resolution. Does anybody have any recommendations that would be good for me?

Purchased this machine around 20 months ago. Did not purchase the extended warranty. Big mistake. Around the 14 month mark, I started have a number of problems. I started with vendor software and kept refreshing windows 10. Then I started looking at the items attached to the machine. Did not find a problem. Nothing worked and I continued on for months to keep the machine working. Now it won't start up or if it does start, it shuts down during operation and sends me a message that I need to install the OS or that it can not find the hard drive.  Very disappointing piece of equipment. Paid close to $2,000 for 14 months of service. Is this the history for this model? Any thoughts? I have been a long time HP customer, many different types of equipment. Probably will not be buying any HP products again. Sorry for the rant, pretty irritated about this issue.

I looked at the manual for the HP ZBook 15 G4 Mobile Workstation and it looks UNBELIEVABLY complex to replace memory. I like the laptop but I need to upgrade the memory. I've been upgrading memory FOR YEARS but it looks like from the manual that I have to take apart the ENTIRE LAPTOP to add memory. Has anyone successfully added memory to an HP ZBook 15 G4 Mobile Workstation themselves? In NYC it would probably be cheaper to sell this laptop than pay a laptop place to upgrade the memory. SHould have look at the manual before I bought this laptop. . . BIG MISTAKE
