Compatible M.2 SSD upgrade devises- Confirmation Please

Hi

Is it possible to clarify the position on M.2 SSD upgrade compatibility for the  HP EliteBook 840 G4. Althought it seems from 1 previous post reply (from Erico) that the Samsung Evo 960  m.2 NVMe is compatible this was not so clear in another forum expert reply  (Huffer)!

So can you confirm compatibility for these (super fast)  M.2 SSDs:

Samsung Evo 960  Evo

 Samsung Evo 960  Pro

Samsung Evo 970  Evo

Samsung Evo 970  Pro

And, if compatible  is there any SSD capacity limit on the maniboard  eg 512 Gb ? - will it take 1Tb capacity ?

I am looking to put an external GPU on my 15-R210DX.  Is this possible?  Does it have an open m.2 slot?  How would this work?

OK. Good luck!!

I was going to leave it at that. Have you followed any of the links or info I provided above??

Here is your model  17-by0053od spec page:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-17-by0000-laptop-pc/20395856/model/22666138/document/c06071011

So, it has a i3-8130U CPU. Now if you go to page 2 of service manualyou can read:

Two memory module slots (7th and 8th generation Intel Core processors) with support for 16GB (2x8GB)

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06148960

However having been here for quite a long time and seeing what many users have upgraded to we have seen that HP DDR4 notebooks  will run with 32GB of RAM (even if you do not need it)

I believe the info is quite clear. However, since you believe it is least valid. Good luck and so long!!!

I am unable to get any support online for a HP ZBook which is still under warranty.

Their mentioned phone number is not working, the automated chat continously stated "I'm sorry I wasn't able to provide a solution, I'm still learning. How would you like to continue?", I am not getting through to a person.

Here's the Service Manual:

Manual

The important points are that it has 2 slots. Manual says non-accessible not customer upgradeable but you are permitted to remove the rear cover for memory or storage upgrade and keep the warranty as long as no damage is done.

Uses DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM. Manual says 16 gigs maximum but it has been proven many times that DDR4 models can actually take 2 x 16 = 32 gigs total memory. The 2666 memory will actually run at 2400 mhz but you need to buy DDR4-2666 modules.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

Supports SATA M.2 only. You have obviously already opened it so I will not link a picture of the inside.

Common error: its not the M.2 slot that has a "key": all M.2 slots are the same two-chambered arrangement. It's the SSD that has a key and NVME are commonly, but not always "M" keyed, and SATA are almost always B + M. Either will physically fit into an M.2 slot but as you have seen: just 'cause it fits don't mean it works.

So trade in the 970 Evo for an 860 Evo and you will be good to go.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

My laptop is plugged in but my battery won't charge

Since a recent Windows 10 update my battery isn't charging when my laptop is plugged in.  I searched here and found a solution!  Or so I thought.  It was the same solution I had found on the HP diagnostics which I had tried and it didn't work.  But I tried it again and it still didn't work.

Does anyone know of any other solutions than the one offered by HP?

Trackpad is bending and I don't know what to do. I'm thinking it is a battery swelling problem. The laptop does also not sit flat anymore. This is really getting in the way of my school work. Laptop is about 1 1/2 years old now and I still have to check if it is on warranty.
