Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer. I will be delighted to assist you here.

 

Check the Mouse options under control panel: 

Start → Control Panel → Mouse → Buttons tab.  

Check the box labeled "Use MS Office compatible scroll only."  

Also, check the box below labeled "Scroll in active window only." 

 
If the issue persists, attempt the below steps: 

Attempt using an alternate/external mouse.  

(If that works when the touchpad is disabled on Synaptic software, it would mean that it's a touchpad failure, 

However, if the external mouse doesn't work either, it could be a software/driver issue). 

 

Uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your mouse: 

Go to the Device Manager and select your mouse. Uninstall it and then restart your computer. During restart, your mouse driver will automatically be reinstalled. 

  • 1.   Click on Start and type ‘Device Manager’. 

  • 2.   Click Device Manager. 

  • 3.   Click + sign next to Mouse. 

  • 4.   Right-click on mouse entry and choose "uninstall". 

  • 5.   Restart your computer.

Thank you Barachiel for your suggestion. I did speak with a lady at HP customer support. All she did was direct me to the parts page and to call on HP vendors. I called HP vendors (CA,NJ and others.) They all said they had no way to help. I would need a product number of a specific processor. Since I don't know what processor(s) might be suitable, I can't give a product number. Posting here was a last resort. Maybe I spoke with the wrong person at HP cutomer support??

Damaged LCD Bezel and Back Cover

I have a HP Notebook 17-bs011dx with an expired warranty. My LCD Bezel and Back Cover are damaged I can purchase a replacement Bezel but the Back Cover is unavailable for purchase which leaves me with two questions. 

 

1) Since I can't purchase the back cover, do I have to send my laptop to HP to get it fixed?

2) Is it possible for me to extend my warranty even after it expired in september 2018?

Re: Windows 10 Failing Update - HP Inc. HIDClass 2.1.8.1

Well the good news is it appears that on the latest version of Windows 10, 1809, the HP 2.1.8.1 update is NOT there anymore.  It might suggest as has previously been said that this update has not yet been tested for the latest 1809 update.  I did force an update and nothing came through and then in device manager checked the version that I currently have and it is still shows 2.1.7.1.  At the moment I am tempted to keep it as I am not now sure if version 2.1.8.1 might still need some work done on it in order to be compatible with the latest 1809 version of Windows 10. It might be worth rolling back to 2.1.7.1 until the correct update comes though.

The HP BIOS UEFI tool provides the HP BIOS Update Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) for the supported notebook models and operating systems. HP BIOS Update UEFI provides support for safe and secure BIOS updates from HP.

Hi,

 

I need a quick advise whether I can upgrade my  HP Pavilion 17-f085sa 1TB (HGST SATA HDD) to 2TB (Seagate BarraCuda 2.5"). My laptop is becoming too slow and when I perform HP Hardware Diagnostics, it fails the HDD Self-test (U4XX1X-7819GJ-MFPV7G-60T213). Can I upgrade to the above HDD after cloning the current one? Also, any advise for a successful replacement procedure will be highly appreciated.

Good call. Here is the Service Manual:

I realize the -bc2xxx series is not expressly covered by this but it is what HP has posted on your procuct homepage so I assume the specs for the -bc3xxx series apply to you. It has an M.2 slot and rear cover removal starts on p. 34 and when you open it you see this:

 

15bc2.jpgM.2 slot is small yellow oval. Hard drive is large yellow oval and RAM is red oval.

 

The 860 Evo M.2 is exactly what you need and you should install Windows to it for enhanced performance.

Keyboard inputs wrong letters

Hello there ~

 

As said in the title my keyboard behaves very strangely for no apparent reasons.

Meaning: i didn't download any software recently, all windows update went well etc...

 

However my keyboard keys either don't work, open random tabs like calculator or input wrong letter. Here are a few example:

• ESC writes W

• F1 writes C

• SPACE BAR seems to be CTRL

• Left Arrow seems to be BACKSPACE

• A and Z don't work

 

This happens with FRENCH language set on. These patterns seem to change when i change the language 🤔

 

NumLock seems locked on (led is on) but i cannot turn it off, either by pressing it or using shortcuts...

Though i read about it online, i doubt it is the problem...

 

Here's all what i have tried so far without success:

 

• Update OS

• Update keyboard drivers

• Delete driver and reboot computer

• Roll back to previous version of driver

• Change languages

• Roll back to a previous windows restore point

• Scan for malwares (Using Malwarebytes)

• Fix registry (Using CCleaner)

• Using on screen keyboard (works perfectly fine)

• Using HP recovery manager

• Use troubleshoot keyboard

• Used HP hardware diagnostics (i wrote input patterns above)

 

Is there anything left to try ?

 

Or does it mean it has to be a physical problem within the keyboard ?

Note: i don't know how this can help but strangely enough, FN + Sound up/Down works fine. Similarly when clicking CapLock on the On Screen Keyboard, the led on my keyboard turns on.

Second Hard Drive / Standard SATA Cable

This cpu has a second hdd drive bay inside it.  That said, the hdd sata flex cable (part #L20682-001 ) is not available for sale?  The connections to the cpu looks very similar to other hp cables for the same purpose (and obviously the other end is standard).  That said, are these cables standard?  Is there an alternative cable that i can use?  It looks like i can find one the right length and seemingly having the same connection, but its not the referenced part.

 

Help i need a second drive!

Hello -- I tried all of these suggestions you included above.  The first few didn't work, but somewhere along the line one of them did work and I now have the use of my touchpad mouse back.  I honestly don't even know which action brought it back because I was trying so many things and getting so frustrated.  Somewhere after the second time I did a hard reset and was about to try something else , it just came back.

What does this failure code mean

Yesterday I started getting a message saying the smart hard disk check has detected an imminent failure.  I ran a quick test and it says my failure ID is M8E7MH-87C9GK-XD7X7G-60R303 .  Can anyone tell me what this is and if/how I can fix it please
