I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Re: Did anyone successfully installed SSD M.2 in HP Laptop?

Thank you for your valuable response

@visruth stated that i cant use MLC based NVME. The manual only states TLC configuration. In other forum it was told to someone else technically it should support MLC. TLC is only stated to declare cheapest form.

Another question is that in few post i found some laptop had M.2 disabled despite present in the manufacturing. How can i check whether its enabled or not.

I live in Pakistan. I have few options for SSDs NVME available in local market. In fact even in my city no one had 512GB SSD NVME. only few had laptop pulled or lower configuration. SO i had to order from other city.

If i import it and it does not work it will be costly to send it back or even resale wont be much useful. So i have to be cautious and assured with should i pursue installing nvme ssd or not.

My current BIOS Level is Insyde F.08.

I although have upgrade available which is F.46 Rev A

Does there any problem occur to upgrade BIOS?

I am rather new to this and i am actually Cad Designer so that is why have to take major upgrade to keep things going

Laptop fan suddenly high speed?

$

Just now my laptop fans suddenly decided to accelerate to what appears to be somewhat close to full RPM, while pretty much idling. They've never done this before, my CPU isn't anywhere near overheating with Intel XTU usually reporting less than 40 degrees Celsius with an average of 39.

The weirdest thing is that right now I'm doing next to nothing and the fan just randomly decides it needs to run at high speed as if the laptop is hot, but when I'm playing somewhat intensive games at which point the fan should be running at high speeds, it doesn't. Is some piece of hardware broken? Can I get some software to better control the fan since the built-in automatic control doesn't seem to know what it's doing any better than a 3-year-old child?

Thanks.

Hi All,

Juat posting an update. HP contacted me. They are sending me a box via FedEx to send my laptop to them in. They are going to replace the battery to see if that does it, and they are not charging me. I’ll post an update once I get the laptop back.

Than you so much for your prompt response! That looks pretty straight forward. Do you know how I release the USB board cable from the system board that goes over the hard drive? Some of them lock and some of them are just pressed in. I don't want to break it. Thanks again.

Understood. By all means update the BIOS.

Samsung PM961 is both MLC and V-NAND and works. I think the problem may be more with the controller chips on newer M.2 disks like the 960 Pro.

"The 960 Pro is based on a denser version of Samsung’s V-NAND (3D) technology, featuring more layers of memory cells. The 960 Pro also features an upgraded and faster 5 ARM Polaris controller, compared to the 950 Pro’s 3 ARM UBX controller."

I think the configuration that makes it faster also may make it incompatible with HP motherboards.

Hi Lurmey,

Has this happened once or several times?

I had a Spectre 13 before with a Skylake processor and found that the fans would suddenly boost out of nowhere when the laptop was nowhere near hot. The controller may be different but please immediately check Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) after fans spin to see if there is any sort of random background process that is taking a chunk of the CPU.

I usually found this to be Windows Modules Installer Worker which is basically a Windows update checker. It took ~40% of CPU, however, there was absolutely no laptop heat.

Furthermore, you can use HP CoolSense and turn it on/off and see if it makes a difference. HP recommends it on but I sometimes found that it activates the fan for no reason. If you don't have it, you can download it here: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp67501-68000/sp67743.exe

Hope this helps,

Hard drive failed then replaced and getting 3F0 error code

I recently had a urgent call from my son. His laptop would not boot. I ran it for codes and came out to have a bad battery, and a failed hard drive. After that I purchased a new battery and reran the check and it still came up with a failed hd. Then I replaced the hard drive with a similar size, speed. After the install the hard disk has 3F0 next to it. I ran the memory testSmiley Tongueassed, and the hard drive test: passed. I bought recovery discs for this computer but nothing happens. I am running boot from the drive. After the recovery disc runs for a little bit I get a message :No HDD, press OK and I'm back to the main recovery screen. Any ideas?

Ok how do you see this?

http://www.adata.com/en/feature/423

In terms of speed i would love to install Samsung 960 PRO or EVO Even i have to import but there is great risk it may not work so i am preferring with rather mid range speed ssd. Atleasst i could return this item if it does not work. You have answered my question in reference to Samsung PRO or EVO as you said mostly had discussion on those. I also saw another post where a person tried Adata XPG SX 8000 ssd but it did not worked later he came to know that M.2 was disabled and he returned the laptop to HP. In my case I cant return it. If nothing goes well with SSD NVME i will have to shift to SSD Sata.

In terms of compatibility, HP manual suggests following parts

847110-004 512 GB $441.75

847109-002 256 GB not in stock

So both are out of question.

Can you tell does Adata XPG SX 8000 match the configuration of HP supported model SSD?

What could be the difference or issue ??

I althoug have ordered XPG SX8000 if it does work i will update.

Is there anyone can help double check the Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 - PCIe 3.0, NVMe1.2 (1TB) Model: MZ-V6E1T0BW wheather compatible with HP EliteBook 840 G3 L3C67AV?

Have an live chat with Samsung Support and their respond is compatible.  I do not want repeat the same issue as I have bought the Samsung SSD 950 PRO M.2 (512GB) Model: MZ-VKV512 since year 2016 which is uncompatible and wasted.

Please.....some one?
