Docking station

I just bought product number 20J12UA.  It is a 14” laptop.  I have a Dell docking station with a USB C connector.  I’m unable to get this to work.  How can I tell what kind of docking station I need?  The laptop USB C port has the standard USB symbol next to it and not the thunderbolt.  I also have 2 USB A ports with the “SS” symbol next to them and also have an HDMI port.

I want to connect to 2 Dell monitors that I already have.

Hi:

Unfortunately, you will not find anything like that.

Any M.2 SATA SSD should work.  Your notebook's M.2 slot does not support NVMe drives.

See chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual for the supported drive types.

IMHO, this one would provide the best performance for the price...

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

The supported drive types can be found in Chapter 1.

Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVMe SSD's.

NVMe SSD's are considerably faster than SATA SSD's, but they do run hotter due to the fast drive speed.

Hi , thanks for answer...

I am wandering as this is new replacement battery from out of HP. It seem (based on the test) to have the Full charge capacity 2944 mAh versus design cappaciy 2600 mAh.. Think there comes the Corrupt Capacity error from. Could that be serious problem or just??

Not familiar with the Dell docking station but your USB-C port is a simple data only port. It is not Thunderbolt and does not support charging the laptop and does not carry a video signal on it as some USB-C type ports do. So to have that port be your connection to 2 external monitors you need a USB dock with something called DisplayLink. It can be either USB-C or use one of your USB A ports or you can use an adapter from the USB-C to a USB A plug.

Like this but many examples:

https://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Display-Docking-Station-K33972US/dp/B009F7E730/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=USB+docking+station+DisplayLink&qid=1612106345&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFZSEw1WFNVNkZUMiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRJZD1BMDIwMzA1MTJCWjJLNkVSU0VUUDYmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDYyNDA4MjcxTEo5S0pUVDRZRSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

This dock has an HDMI and a DVI not sure what the input is to your 2 monitors so you might have to use an adapter.

Post back with any more questions and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.

My laptop wouldn't charge when I had the ac adapter plugged in. I ran a diagnostics test on the battery and it came back good. Then I ran a test on the ac adapter and it failed with code 9GFC1W-8QZAGW-MFPURF-C18903.

Screen Hinge Issue

I have an HP Chromebook and it was dropped.  The screen and body are fine and no damage.  However, the hinges had separated from the body inside and makes it hard to open and close the cover.

The hinges sit a certain way inside the body below the keyboard and held in by one screw.  I am not sure how to secure the hinges into place anymore since the screw is no longer working,

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for replying @Echo_Lake, it's greatly appreciated..

The link you sent redirects me to https://support.hp.com/gb-en/contact-hp (I'm UK based, so that makes sense).  However, on that page there is no form to complete, email address to send to, or similar.  I get the options per the screen shot below.

gth_81_0-1612108505038.png

I have found a section that may have a phone number when it is business hours (will check on Monday) and hopefully can call there.  It appears after I enter my serial number here (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/contact/laptops).

I have actually opened the laptop and it is the battery that is swollen.  The spacebar and touch pad are now working as normal, although the laptop is open (with zero chance of me closing it again given how swollen the battery is) so I will need a replacement battery.  I unfortunately can't find a genuine HP battery replacement (YB06XL) on the HP shop or any other resellers, so hopefully the Service Support team are able to arrange.  It all seems a bit ridiculous given the laptop is just over 2 years old and was very much a premium product with a rrp of £2000 at the time.

HP envy 360 13 - Crooked Hinge

I have just purchased an HP envy x360 from Amazon and the left hinge on laptop was slightly misaligned or crooked. I requested for a replacement assuming it was a manufacturing error .However, the replacement also has the same problem.  I am getting the wrong devices?

The laptop works perfectly and the hinge is not making any sounds. However, it is an expensive device and I do not want any issues in the future due to this hardware error. Can someone please guide me on what I should ideally do next. I am New to the forum, appreciate any support.

Thanks for replying @Mad_Jick.

I'm UK based and it seems I'll have to call during business hours next week to get a response (there is no online contact form or support email address listed).  Unfortunately finding a genuine spare battery in the UK seems almost impossible, so fingers crossed their support team can arrange one.

I agree it seems the battery should have been included in the recall.  I also very much agree they should do a better job of advertising the fact their batteries should be unplugged when fully charged.  My use is mixed in that sometimes I am connected to screens (and pugged in to mains power) and unconnected running off the battery, so this being more clearly communicated would have changed how I use it.

Anyway, good luck with your fix!

Can i install 1.5v DDR3L ram on my HP Pavilion 14-e005tu laptop? please me guys i want to buy a ram asap

Hi:

There is no such thing as 1.5V DDR3L memory.

All DDR3L memory is 1.35V and that is what your notebook uses...DDR3L-1600 1.35V, not 1.5V.

Envy runs hot with noisy fan but ProBook is cool and quiet

I have a 6 year old ProBook 500GB SSD i7 8MB ram intel that has always been quiet and runs cool. I just purchased a new Envy 500GB SSD i7 16MB ram that is hot and has a noisy fan. I am going to take it back. My question is: If I buy a new ProBook instead, will it be quiet like my old one?
