I have an HP Envy 17 J137cl, and the graphics card is going bad. I have had the computer for a little more than a year so there is no warranty on it anymore. I want to just replace the motherboard with one that perhap has a better graphics card, as I play a lot of games. Could someone give me a list of motherboards compatible with my laptops setup? Thanks!
What's happening which makes you think that "the graphics card is going bad"?

Your notebook shipped with 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 4 GB). You can upgrade it to a total of 8GB MAX. You can find compatible RAM for your notebook series here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/pavilion-15-rxxxx-series-%28intel-ddr3%29
Here is your product's Maintenance and Service Guide which has part listings/instructions for replacing the memory (RAM).
Hi @sparkles1 Thank you for the reply.
I didnt think about the external mouse drivers [I have a M510 logitech wireless mouse]. I went to the website and my mouse is up to date. When I disconnected the external mouse as well as turned off the touch pad it still displaced the same thing. I tried all 4 USD ports and that did not fix it either. I have also ran both the HP support assistant and there are currently no updates.
Thank you again for your help!

After playing a game for about 30 minutes the game starts lagging really hard and the speakers emit crazy sounds that I think of as robots having a war with one another. It started about 3 months ago. It would only happen once, then it would stop until the next day(after shutting down the computer). Now it happens almost every 30 minutes to an hour of play time throughout the day. The only thing I could think of is that the graphics card can no longer handle the processes without overheating.
Have you done any troubleshooting yet?
Things I would recommend:
1. Update your HP System BIOS to version F.66 Rev. A [download here]
2. Uninstall your video drivers, restart the system, then install the latest Intel High-Definition Graphics Driver. [download here]
Hi i currently have a HP 355 g2 that won't power on. I have taken the battery out and tried powering on this way as well no luck. I think i know what the problem is the power connector cable. I can't seem to find a part number for this. I plan to order one if I can find one and replace it myself. Anyone know where I can locate one. Thanks a ton!
Just bought the HP Spectre x360 13-4195dx (13" convertible Laptop), and have updated the BIOS and windows 10. I always disable the "tap to click" feature of the laptop, but everytime i restart the laptop, the tap to click reenables itself. I've tried to create a profile in the synaptics settings but that doesnt work either. Has anyone figured out how to permanently disable this feature?
Thanks for your help.
Version 11 was already installed on both laptops, but I did go through those steps with one of them and I still couldn't get it to work.
It really doesn't make sense as to why they aren't working to wake the machines. Is there anything in the BIOS that would be overriding the Windows settings?
HP Pavilion dv6t-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC
Model #: LM720AV
what will be the part # for heat cooling fan for this model??
Im on F.41 for my elitebook 8560w running Windows 10 Pro 64bit. The latest version is F.60 http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5071172&swItemId=ob_146866_1&swEnvOid=4059#tab1
On the support page for my elitebook, however, they don't list any kind of support for windows 10. Should I attempt to update the BIOS at all or no?
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
My Laptop has been acting super slow recently (it has been 3.8 years).
To increase its performance, I want to get my current HardDisk removed and would love an SSD to take its place.
Also I want to increase my RAM to 8 GB (from 4 GB)
Kindly let me know if this is possible.
Are there two slots for RAM? If yes, should I just buy an addititonal 4 GB or buy 2 latest 4 GB RAMs?
Product Details:
HP PAVILLION G6 2320 TX NB PC
[personal information removed]
Service Manual:
See p. 46.
Specified module:
4 GB (PC3, 12800, 1600 MHz) 641369-001
You can buy 2 of these if you wish but adding 1 to the existing module will also work just fine and provide all the performance the laptop is capable of giving as far as memory.
You can also install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD in place of the hard drive. Let us know if you need help with software reinstallation. With Windows 10 already installed you can easily download a restore disk directly from Microsoft to at least get the OS reinstalled on the SSD.

i have an external display connected via dcmi port. when computer awakes from sleep mode, the display is not recognized. even if i disconnect/reconnect the device from port, it is not seen. i must restart computer before device is recognized again. i also have similar problems with 10 port usb hub, but disconnect/reconnect fixes it. Both fixes are overkill. I didn't have any problems with these connections on old laptop. please advise.thx.
If it ain't broke don't fix it. Is there some issue you are having that you hope a BIOS upgrade will fix?
Yours is a CTO model which means the hardware was not fixed so here are the possible heatsink/fan units:
For use only with computer models equipped with an Intel processor:
For use only with computer models equipped with a graphics subsystem with 2048-MB discrete memory 650797-001
For use only with computer models equipped with a graphics subsystem with 1024-MB discrete memory 641477-001
We need to know which graphics chip you have to specify the correct part number.
Envy 2015 is not really a model we need to know the HP Model number:
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00033108
Sounds like a hardware issue I hate to say. Have you tried an external monitor? If the display is stable on an external then the problem has to be the screen panel itself of a connection to it.
Thank you for quick response.
Another Question-
How do I backup OS + Softwares from my existing HardDisk and Restore into the new SSD?
You can use Windows 10 itself to do a bootable recovery drive:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/create-a-recovery-drive
Use an external hard drive to make the recovery drive, then you can use that to recover the SSD back to the same state. You can also use cloing software like Clonezilla or Acronis
