Are you inserting the Ethernet cable until the tab clicks to lock it in? Have you tried using the cable connected to your router with another device to prove it's working?

Yes, it clicks, and yes, the cables work just fine with other devices, including interchanging them between modem and router, and they all work with devices such as an Xbox.
