HP Pavilion Won't startup

$

Hi, I have recently bought a HP Pavilion 14-al106na laptop which has a problem starting up.

The power light is on, but when I press the start key:

The start button lights up for less than 2 second

And, the button on the disk light button briefly comes on (for a second).

I currently don’t have a disk drive (the laptop didn’t come with one), but I assumed that even when starting the laptop without a disk it should boot directly to BIOS.

I had been told the problem existed even with the disc connected.

I tried disconnected the battery but this has no effect.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

The issue could be with the Motherboard of the PC if the battery is able to hold the charge. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Remove discs and devices

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Remove any discs and USB devices.

  3. Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

  4. Disconnect all non-essential devices such as printers, scanners, external hard drives.

  5. Leave only the mouse, keyboard, and monitor connected.

After you have removed all discs and devices, turn on the computer.

Also, Perform a hard reset

Refer to step 2 mentioned in this document.

If the PC powers ON, run a hardware test.

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.

Let me know how this goes.

Excessive loud fan noise from brand new laptop

Purchased a brand new HP Notebook 15 dw008ca on Sept. 14, 2019. The laptop has made an incredibly loud noise from day one.  It sounds like the fan is really loud. I have never had a laptop make this noise before. Sometimes the noise is not there, but it does return every time I use it. Sometimes, the bottom of the laptop feels warm to the touch. Since this is a BRAND NEW laptop, (just over 7 weeks old) I do not accept that this should be happening. I googled how to fix this and all the recommendations do not make sense for a BRAND NEW device. The fan should not be dusty, or overheating, or worn out (it's suppose to be new!) The laptop is always used on a table (not on a bed or a lap) so there is lots of movement of air around the device. Do I need to return this computer to get one that does not make this noise? can this be fixed? Why is this happening? I am very disappointed.

Re: New Hard Drive will not boot

Thanks for the reply's. I first put in an OEM 1 tb hard drive. I kept getting a message that it would not boot to HDD and needed a Intel Optane. After much searching, found that this model does not have a space for the M.2 connection it needed. It seemed to indicate that maybe the original HDD was to slow to boot the current program. Anyway I returned the OEM HDD and got a Crucial SSD BX500 for $15 more. Cheaper than trying to get the Optane adapters plus the OEM HDD. Installed the SSD and it booted up from the USB flash drive with no problem. It's now much faster and will probably last longer than the old HDD.

Also I never partitioned the SSD. Seems like it did it from the ISO install as it showed the partitions when the SSD was checked after the install.

Welcome to HP Community!

I went through your product specifications and here's what I see:

You've got:

  • 1 USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 1 (Data transfer only, up to 5Gb/s) - Only this supports High speed data transfer.
  • And 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (1 HP Sleep and Charge).

Though you should be able to connect to any docking station, I must let you know that HP neither supports not recommends using one, you may use it at your own discretion, hence I have no references for you on that parts.

As for the RJ45 to USB Type-C you've mentioned, the link seems to be accurate and compatible though it may not suggest the same on the website, it should work! Although I personally suggest you take the device to a local tech store and check if these devices work before you purchase them, to be on a safer side.

Keep us posted,

HP Chromebook 11 G4 has a very dim monitor

HP Chromebook 11 G4 has a very dim monitor.  I've tried using the screen brightness key to increase the brightness and that did not work.  I checked all of the connections to the system board and they are good.  I removed the LCD and re-seated all of the connections and that did not work.  I plugged the Chromebook into a projector using and HDMI cable and the display did not go through the projector.

You have to buy the whole set. Depending on the color of your machine, you can use

  • In dark ash silver finish part # L20111-001
  • In natural silver finish part # L20110-001

And you can buy from

     http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=L20110-001

Or use part # to search elsewhere (very rare because Lxxxxxx parts are new).

Elite X2 AC adapter (1) stops everything from running and (2) indicates plugged in but not charging

With no warning, the touchscreen, keyboard and apps on my Elite X2 stopped working this morning. When I unplugged the AC adapter, everything worked perfectly.

When I plugged the AC adapter back in, everything froze again. I tried several 45-watt adapters and the 65-watt HP adapter; the result is still a freeze of everything.

At the same time, my PC indicates a variety of power conditions while the AC adapter is connected. It may say "plugged in but not charging," it may show the plugged-on battery icon and not display a message, or it may show the battery icon.

Meanwhile, the white LED next to the AC charging inlet is lit, and the battery does not charge.

I have run HP's Support Assistant and it cannot find any issues.

I was chatting online with an HP support rep, but he was unable to provide any answers other than whatever was in his script.

Any ideas/assistance welcome - thanks! Hopefully I can get this addressed before the battery completely dies.

What is it ? I believe it only has 32GB of eMMC which is not upgradable. You can add 256GB of SD or microSD card to its card reader to store user files/data.

You can buy this type of cards from any good computer, electrical .... shops. You need to know its physical size but I believe the following one should work

        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-evo-plus-256gb-microsd-card-sdxc-u3

(Note: it comes with a standard SD adapter).  But again, I would like to know EXACTLY what is your machine, to confirm.

OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc1xxx ADVANCED BIOS and INTEGRATED GRAPHIC DISABLED

Hi,

I just bought an OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dc1xxx two days ago and I noticed that advanced bios options are disabled and also the integrated graphics are disabled as well.

I want to enable the advanced bios options OR at least the i7 integrated graphics card. I don't want to always run the RTX2070 for mundane tasks and I only want it to be activated when I enter games. But I can't find any help.

I tried to install the bios update f.12 from here: https://support.hp.com/ro-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-15-dc1000-laptop-pc-series/26122182/model/26683466?sku=6BK19EA

but it says I don't have space on disk ... that is crazy I only have windows installed and some programs at this moment.

hp support assistant app says i have bios f.01

Re: How to increase storage?

Unfortunately, no I didn't do prior research. I'm a bit of an oddity for my generation because I'm in my early 20's and fairly computer illiterate. I can use computers well enough to surf the web and play games on them but not much else. I bought the cheapest one at Walmart which was the only one I could really afford without breaking my bank.

Aside from that my comp does have an SD card slot. Couldn't an external hard drive that plugs into a usb slot work? And how do I find the exact model of Stream I own? I only found as much as I did by googling what is on the box and thought it was the model number.

And to the second comment.... I checked that link and read the article but I don't understand much of it so unless there is a step by step guide that breaks it down more simply than that I won't be able to use it unfortunately.

Welcome to HP Community!

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge, Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in.

8 - When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

If the issue persists check this link: Click here

Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
