That SSD that you have asked about is not compatible with your notebook.

Your notebook's BIOS is compatible with the followng M.2 SSD specifications.

M.2, SATA solid-state drive with triple level cell (TLC)

M.2, PCIe, NVMe solid-state drive with TLC memory.

The form factors need to be 2280

Click on the Service and Support Media resources link at the bottom of this post to access information that you will need to have to make an informed upgrade decision.

Before purchasing an SSD, ensure that the slot for the SSD is present.  Some notebooks are delivered without the slot present, depending on the configuration  that they were purchased with. Click on the the Part Locator --> Solid state drive to see where the slot should be. If the slot is not on the systemboard, then an M.2 SSD will not be a viable upgrade for your notebook.

You will need to open the base enclosure to do that. Click on the FRU Remove\Replace  and click on Base enclosure to see how to remove the base.

Hi

Look for Windows Administrative Tools and Disk Clean-Up and start there.

If it is a 32 GB storage disk and you have a Micro SD move absolutely everything into the Cloud or onto the SD card.

Tell us how much space you have please.

Does it have these items?

Storage
Support for 32-GB embedded MultiMedia Controller (eMMC) version 5.0
Optical drive
DVD±RW SuperMulti Double-Layer Drive (9.5mm tray load, SATA, external USB optical drive

RJ-45 (Ethernet)
USB: one USB 3.0 port, 2 USB 2.0 ports

Because if so then you may be able to make an install DVD/USB.

If in doubt please ask.

See the following recent HP document to learn how to make space for Windows updates on a Stream notebook.

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05449785

I recommend using a USB flashdrive while performing Window updates on a 32GB Stream notebook to gain more space and successfully apply the updae.

A Stream notebook was a not a good choice for a college notebook.  I take it that you purchased the version that was only delivered with 32GB of onboard eMMC memory.

Make sure that you use the OneDrive storage to store any papers or study material that is important to you.

But the SSD I mentioned IS M.2, SATA with TLC, 2280 form factor. How is it not compatible?

That code is "Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure". As the system is not booting, the likelihood is that the hard disk has failed completely and will need to be replaced.

If you have any warranty remaining, contact HP to arrange for warranty service. If you have no warranty remaining, the best way ahead is likely to be buying and installing a replacement drive yourself (then reinstalling Windows, your drivers and applications), or retiring and replacing the broken computer.

It would help if you gave the model number of the laptop and of the power adapter. Is there any error code related to the AC adapter failure?

If you have any warranty remaining, I would contact HP about warranty service.

If you have no warranty left, as your laptop charges when turned off, the issue may be that the power adapter is too small to power and charge the laptop simultaneously or is failing in some way. Taking a chance by buying a replacement power adapter (if you cannot borrow a suitable HP power adapter from a friend or colleague to try) would risk much less money than paying for a replacement system board.

Hi

Could you please expand on the

MAKE, MODEL, OS and SKU?

Dunno.

Depending on the BIOS installed it could be a Memory (RAM) issue.

Hardware

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07107

LED blinks three time
Memory
Module error not functional
  1. Reseat the memory.
      note:
See the Services Media Library for steps for your computer.
  2. Check each individual memory module and swap slots.
  3. Replace the memory modules causing three blinks or if the blinks follow the slots.
  4. Replace the system board.

So start with the Memory Modules (RAM).

If in doubt please ask.

TPM firmware update doesn't work for Spectre X2 12-c00xx

So I need an updated TPM firmware to fix the ROCA vulnerability before I can install the virtual digital badge.

I downloaded the firmware from

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05792935

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp84001-84500/sp84203.exe

which suppose to upgrade my firmware to 5.62.3126.0

However, the software said that it's not compatible with my laptop. Upon checking my BIOS firmware, it's F.17A which seems to be newer than the BIOS firmware that comes with SP84203.

I did a query of my current TPM version (run TPM.msc), and the version displayed is 5.61.2785 which is older than the version of the TPM fix.

So I'm now stuck, how do I upgrade my TPM from 5.61.2785 to 5.62.3126 ?

I'm sorry I might have mislooked.

But to get things clear, in order for the SSD to be compatible with my laptop, it needs to be M.2, SATA with TLC, 2280 form factor, am I right?

And the 120GB storage wouldn't be an issue even when the laptop's manual says it supports 128GB, am I right?

I thought my post stated that quite clearly.

You will quickly fnd out that for Windows, a 120 GB SSD is very low capacity. I wouldn't use less than a 256 GB SSD.

Otherwise, after installing a few programs, you will find that you will quickly run out of space.

Hello David,

So can't I know it before buying the PC?

I'm quite new to SSDs I'm sorry for my sluggishness.

And I'm just planning on installing my OS on the SSD and a few important programs. It would be sufficient enough for a student like me :)

Thanks btw!

System Errors - What do they mean?

$

I have a Pavilion dv7, which is 8 years old and is having an issue where my battery is not charging, and the white battery light is blinking.

I tried all of the steps indicated on other pages, including taking the battery out and holding the power button, uninstalling the battery driver, and verifying that my BIOS is up-to-date.

I finally ran the system tests (accessed by pressing F2 at startup), and I got two different errors.

On the Hard Disk test, I got error 9XTXXXQ-598970-XD003F-618403

On the Run-In, Start-Up, and Battery tests, I got error 9XTXXQ-000970-XD003F-C0FH03

Can you please tell me what they mean and how to resolve them?

Thank you,

Peter

BIOS Password

Good afternoon.

I bought some year ago the Brand New Notebook HP ProBook 4740s, stil working fine.

Some day ago I was asked by the program HP Support Assistant for installing the important HW update, but I'm not able to do it because I don't know the BIOS password requested, but it was not set by myself.

I called HP Help Desk, and they told me that they are not able to supply the password, better replacing the motherboard.

I don't think it's correct, because the laptop works properly and there is no need to replace it.

Could you please help me, or better buying some other brand next time?

Thank you.

Regards.

Mauro!
