HP Pavilion Notebook (15-ak085na) Battery Dies minutes after being fully charged

$

Bought this laptop in September 2016, but have always had consistent battery problems with it. Got it sent to HP under warranty back in June 2017, as the laptop would die when on 40% or so. The battery was meant to last 3 hours, however this kept getting reduced until it would only last 20 minutes of charge. This problem was fixed when sent to HP, or so I thought.

The problem has reappreared, since March 2018, the battery does not last when not plugged in to charge. Its got so bad now, that it dies within 5 minutes of being off the charger, even though it says it is 100% charged.

How do I rectify this? The problem was clearly never fixed properly in the first place, I have never had any issue like this with any other laptop. I cannot reach any customer support becaue the warranty went out on September 2017, however, this is a problem that was not cleary fixed when under warranty.

I dont think there is anything I can do, as when I did contact HP, they told me that only they could fix it, after remotely carrying out several diagnostic tests.

I do not have this remote diagnostic option now as it is out of warranty, I can only talk to a virtual agent which is no good to me, or pay for support which I would not see as fair.

Can anyone direct me in what to do here?

Thank you!

As I understand, your notebook does not power on,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Were there any hardware/software changes made?

Have you tried using an alternate charger?

If not, you could try an alternate charger.

Faulty keyboard.

So, I have owned this HP 15-bs033cl for only 6 months and so far it's had:

- Dead pixels

- Faulty keyboard (1st offense)

- Faulty touchpad (found when I sent it in for the keyboard)

- Screen broke from a super low height (<1.5 ft)

- Faulty keyboard (2nd offense, this issue)

I am wondering if since they didn't fix it properly and it's still under their warrenty, will they fix it?

Best performance upgrades for 15-bs020wm ?

I have a HP 15-bs020wm.

I just want enough to open apps like facebook without lag. Not to render or anything like that. I  just want enough to stream movies and quick startup so i can jump on the browser immediatley. Yes, I've done everything in a lot of forumns I read about startup programs, turn off animations, bloatware, etc. It stilll doesn't work for me.

I don't know if i should upgrade the RAM or the HDD because I don't know if upgrading the RAM is just enough to do the stuff I want without lagging. If an 8 gig RAM isnt enough, should i go with a 16 gig or just forget about it and upgrade to a ssd instead? I don't care about memory of SSD I have a lot of external hdds.

Also, can I cheap out on these kind of stuff, instead of going for the samsung can i go for something like a Silicon Power SSD? It will be perfect for me financial wise if the RAM upgrade is just enough.

Thank you in advance, Fred Ascencio

Laptop battery will not take a charge (Diagnostics included)

This laptop has been sitting unused for a while. It was not plugged in and the battery has drained, but it will not take a charge. I thought the battery may have discharged too much and become damaged, but the built-in HP diagnostics say the battery is ok as well as the AC cable. I've included the diagnostics below. I've removed and reseated the battery to make sure it was making good contact and I've left the laptop plugged in for several days, but it will still not take a charge.

Hi:

Pretty good reviews on that Silicon Power SSD...

https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-240GB-Internal-SP240GBSS3S55S25AE/dp/B01M61OWRI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1525802860&sr=8-4&keywords=silicon+power+ssd&dpID=51et-KWQwnL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpsrc=srch

I just bought this one last week...Very happy with it.

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-240GB-Solid-State-SDSSDA-240G-G26/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1525802980&sr=8-3&keywords=sandisk+-+ssd+plus+240gb&dpID=41gUJYo61bL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpsrc=srch

If you already have 8 GB of memory, I would go for the SSD upgrade first before adding additional memory.

That slow-poke 5,400 RPM spinner is slowing down the works.

The processor your notebook has is entry level and that is also a contributor to the lousy performance.

There's nothing you can do about that.

We at the Forum are generally not HP employees (I am not) and have no access to past service records. Seems to me they got you a battery that barely got you past one year of use then it went bad again so essentially the purpose of the warranty was fulfilled. Ordinarily you would get 2-3 years out of a battery, but not always. They are consumable and in this case, with this model, easily replaced. It is not an internal battery where you have to open the case to replace it.

(20) Battery 4-cell, 48-Whr, 3.2-Ah Li-ion 800050-001 4-cell, 41-Whr, 2.8-Ah Li-ion 800049-001

See p. 34 of the Service Manual here:

Manual

This is a "compatible" 3rd party battery fairly inexpensive:

https://www.amazon.com/Baturu-KI04-800049-001-15-an050nr-hstnn-lb6s/dp/B01N7K7K9Z/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525804201&sr=8-1&keywords=800050-001+genuine

This is a genuine HP battery for about the same price ($24) and shipped from the USA.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-OEM-KI04-Battery-HP-Pavilion-14-15-17-HSTNN-LB6R-800050-001-HSTNN-LB6S/112813424518?hash=item1a44343f86:g:saEAAOSw8W5agvUo

Let me know if you live outside the USA and we can find you a battery where you live.

I would not spend a lot of time messing with trying to get HP to help you outside of warranty when you can buy a new battery for $24.

Post back if you need anything else and please accept as solution if this is answer you needed.
