Re: Is Hard Disk Failure covered under warranty?

Hi,

Manual: page 105, 106
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04402649

Replacement of HDD needs major disassembly to be done. Get help from good technician if you're not confident enough.

Any 2.5 inch 7mm/9.5mm thick SATA internal HDD or SSD will be good.

Use Recovery discs/USB you should've created after first setup of this laptop, to factory reset OS after replacement.

You can take out HDD and connect it to another computer using SATA to USB adapter, then copy the files you can.

Hi Huffer, thank you for the answer.

Then I will probably buy the B970 in the near future. I guess now that the best option the notebook can have is to replace de HDD with an SSD, as I did with the ProBook and maybe a little more RAM but for the use, 4GB is good enough.

Re: Battery drain when shut-down (HP Spectre x360)

Here's my experience, had a HP technician look at my machine today remotely via the online chat. I was skeptical of the Sphinx update that had mixed results for users so thought I'd approach HP directly. Will also be calling their Australian support phone number tomorrow.

I bought my x360 13-W032TU (i7 512GB 16GB) in Mid Nov 2016

Have used it only a handful of times since then and noticed the battery drains completely before uses if I leave it for a few days. Definitely not normal, and after reading through all this I think we all share the same disappointment and frustration. All I did myself to try fix it was turn off the USB charging and the fast startup but hasn't worked of course.

The technician updated all the drivers and the BIOS today to F.20 and told me to charge fully then discharge completely and repeat 3 times to calibrate the battery... Will do as I'm told and see what happens.

If this is not resolved I will be asking HP for a return based on fair trade policy given this product does not meet its intended purposes "for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied".

Has anyone purchased the new model (what specs?) and the battery has been fine??

Hard drive space not correct

I have now tested the USB Charging OFF in BIOS menu, Fast Boot disabled...

Needless to say there is still a 2% drop reported by the Windows Battery Report tool over 12 hours, the exact same as when those two options are set to ON.

This is about as good as it will probably ever get after software/firmware updates.

Ram

My ram went out on my 2000 series 2d29wm notebook and had my brother check to see what was wrong. He had tried using an old ram stick he had lying around and it booted up normally. So, i purchased a single 4gb DDR3L - 1600 SODIMM ram stick from Crucial because i've researched and found that this one is indeed compatible. I installed, powered on but the screen wont turn on. It sounded fine; the lights are flickering as they should like the caps lock as well as spun the disk drive.. Just no display. I've made sure to try both slots to see if that was the issue but the results are the same. I've made sure that i installed it all the way, and not half out.

Hi,

Why not buy the SAME pld RAM and/or SANE your brother's old RAM. You know they worked.

Exact part number for replacement components

Hi,

I have a client with a broken bottom case on an Envy 17t-j000. When I put the serial number in Partsurfer, I get the correct laptop but there are several possible case components that all look the same and have different part numbers.

In particular, I can't tell the difference between "Base Enclosure CURVE" (720225-001) and "Base Enclosure FLOW"  (720226-001) and "Base Enclosure CURVE TS" (736475-001).

How do I know which part I need to order?

Yes. Removing the grey rubber footing on the back / bottom of laptop, there are 4 hidden screws. Once those are off, the bottom pops right off.  Also all the outter scres.   Ram and everything else is accessible.

Wish this was clear on the manual or how to page about this laptop.

Excellent!  Thank you.

(To clarifiy: Removing the rubber strip with standard tweezers won't damage it?)

Hi,

Depending upon the characteristics of the specific CTO(configure to order) model you're searching, HP part number is varies.

Re: Hp Envy X360 loud fan noise

Cat TongueGreetings.
I bought some days ago HP X360 with AMD processor.

This is my mistake ! Cooler for AMD is VERY noisy ! X360 is very cool, but not with AMD proc.

I found some (not very good) solution for it:

1. Open "Control panel->Hardware and sound->Power options"

2. Create new power plan

3. For this new power plan configure advanced option "Minimal processor state, %", set it 10.

You can use this new power plan for everyday work (internet, documents etc. - processor runs at 10% of speed and cooler not so noisy), and for more complex task switch to any other power plan, where processor runs at 100% speed but with big noise Smiley Happy.
