It's true the wireless card consumes less power and it is a 1Tx1R, but I've seen many, many other cases where updating the router's firmware or replacing the router altogether has resolved poor wifi performance issue on Windows 8. 

 

 

 

I've also seen where changing the mode from 'Mixed' to 'G Only' has corrected the issue with Windows 8 computers. (In a previous role with HP) I have been on the phone with customers while they change this setting, called them back a day or two days later, long enough for them to test it, and it has worked on several occasions. The only exceptions would be if there are devices in the home that require a setting other than G. One user had a SmartThermostat that was on the network, which required N. So that is rare. G Mode should work in most home network scenarios.

One even suggested that changing from 'Auto' to 'Mixed' corrected the issue.
