video hardware error

I've got a Pavilion dv6 with Windows 7, probably almost 4 years old now.

Recently its had trouble installing the usual Windows updates. Then, while I was editing videos, I noticed the playback of the videos was lagging, so I restarted my computer (with the updates). It once again told me it failed to install updates, then suddenly shut down and gave me the blue screen of death. When it came back on, it gave me this message: Failed to connect to a windows service Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service. This problem prevents standard users from logging into the system. As an administrative user, you can review the System Event Log for details about why the service didn't respond.

Checking for solutions (which is couldn't give me) it atleast said I had a video hardware error. I took a few screenshots of the information it gave me if its needed, just in case. Also, my personalized appearance of the tool bar and others suddenly look like they're from a much older version of windows, and almost all my themes are apparently unuseable.

Is it something easily fixed or do I need a new video card? Also, I don't know anything about video cards. -_-
