Hello, I have the aforementioned pen, and it only 'wakes up' when I plug it in via the USB-C port. The top button will not waken the bluetooth functionality and thus I can't use this fully as designed (for example in presentation mode).
What's more, the HP Pen software recognises that the battery is getting lower than the full charge that it starts with. So I really don't know what's happening here. :-s
I am fully expecting that I'm just being dumb, and haven't done something obvious, for which I'm happy to be told, hehehe. Equally, though, and for what it's worth; I work in technical support, and would appreciate avoiding any 'delaying' answers (if you work in the field, you know what I'm talking about) ... my mind works on pure ITIL so I'm after at least a "workaround" and preferably a "fix" here, and have provided more detail after my signature.
Finally, here's my example use case so that you can see maybe where I am here:
- I turn on the laptop and log in to my (admin - but it's the same on normal) profile.
- I get the alert: "Pen is out of range" (or similar)
- I go to the pen settings ...
- I can't do anything.
If I plug it in, then try to pair it, it's fine, though. This happens on a full charge, or half-charge, or whatever charge.
Yours,
Eliot
PS - I had this all formatted very nicely, and this silly posting system just won't let me post it, so excuse me if this post looks like utter crap as it's a copy/paste.
Below I've listed as much (of what I think is) relavent information about the setup.
This is a *brand new* HP EliteBook x360 1030 G3, with Win 10 64-bit (possibly enterprise), running stock everything. Yes, I've installed all the updates.
I have the latest version of the HP Pen software (I think - unchecked):
App Version: 7.6.45.0
Service Version: 7.5.1.37
Driver Version: 7.5.2.29
Tablet FW Version: 17412
Bluetooth FW Version: 256
Using custom defaults: HP - 7.5.5.15
The pen details are as follows:
L16131-001
9CR842 1BF1
L04729-002
On the label, not yet unpeeled, it states:
HP ACTIVE PEN G2
RMN:HSN-W001P
FCC ID: HV4-HSN-W001P
IC ID: 6888A-HSN-W001P
SPS: L16131-001
R-CRM-HV4-HSN-W001P
CNC ID: C-22013
ID: NR-EAT/8667 RLO(NR)
FETEL ID: RCPHPHS18-0681
ANATEL: 03453-18-01796
((( The rest I couldn't read, I'm afraid. )))
I have only ever been able to pair it with the cable connected, it seems that the bluetooth subsystems won't wake until the pen is plugged in.
I have tried to follow the HP YouTube guide which follows, but (hopefully obviously) the failing point is that I can't click the top button:

I'm wondering what the issue is here, there's no way to open this thing, so I can't check the battery.
I have a second laptop with the *exact* same configuration that has the *exact* same issue.
