Re: TouchPad on my ENVY Notebook Has Stopped Working Completely

I have been having the SAME exact issue that you are having.  In fact I bought two of these machines and they both had the same exact issue with the touchpad.   I still have one of these machines but the other was returned.

My device is also an HP Envy 15t-q300, also originally installed with Windows 8.1.  I installed Windows on this machine from a clean ISO install.

Currently I have Synaptics driver 19.0.19.1 (Driver Date: 8/5/2015).  This provides full functionality to the touch pad and has been stable.  The annoying part however is that Windows Update likes to update this driver.  Once that happens the touchpad will typically work until the machines goes into it's first sleep cycle, and then upon next resume the touchpad shows as disabled and there is no way to enable it.  That is when I must perform the driver roll back and things work for a while again.

I have downloaded the latest drvier from synptics and the same issue occur as they do with the driver from Windows Update.  I would really like to see a resolution to this issue as it's really quite irritating.

HP Elitebook 740 g2 m.2 PCI SSD compatibility

I have a HP Elitebook 740 G2 laptop and i want to upgrade it with a SSD disk via the m.2 slot.

The m.2 Slot is 2260 (60mm long) and has one notch (which suggests its a PCI based not SATA type). Can you suggest any compatible 120/250GB disk so i can just see the type that i should be looking for. I found a lot of 2262 m.2 SSD like:

Transcend 256GB m.2 2260 SATA

http://www.amazon.com/Transcend-256-SATA-MTS600-TS256GMTS600/dp/B00KLTPT6A/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461732717&sr=1-1

and

Cruical256GB m.2 2260 SATA

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Technology-2-Inch-Internal-CT250MX200SSD6/dp/B00RZ6GO98/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461732717&sr=1-4

But they are both SATA (not PCIe) and with 2 notches instead of one.

The only PCIe based SSD m.2 and with one notch that i found is the Kingston Predator 240GB but its 2282(80mm long) and it wont fit.

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-Predator-SHPM2280P2-240G/dp/B00V01C376/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1461732717&sr=1-5&keywords=m.2+2260

I found some info that any 2260 SATA m.2 disk woud fit and work, but in that way i wont be using the full potential of the PCIe lane and speed of the disk (as in the Predtor disk).

Any sugestions for a propper PCIe based with one notch 2262 drive?

Replacement of Imminent Failing Hard disk

My laptop hp 15-n029sg was showing the imminent hard drive failure message. I have checked the hard drives through "Check Now" options. Every time I scan some problem is found and I fix it accordingly. But then again it shows some problems are found when scanned again. Is there any way I can find out where the problem is gone or not?

Eventually I guess I have to replace the hard drive. Can anyone suggest the proper i.e compatable hard drive for my laptop?

Re: Testing USB ports

Hi arnnny,

One way to test the hardware of your notebook is to use the UEFI diagnostics installed on your PC.

Check out this document: HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8)

The document will tell you how to open the UEFI diagnostics menu, you then want to look at the Compenent Tests, under which there should be an option to test your USB ports.  It is an interactive test, so you will need a USB device that you know is fully functional as the test will direct to to connect the device for testing.  Look for the USB Ports section in the document as it provides more details on how the tests are run.  Also, make sure whatever USB device you use works on another PC.  Something like a portable hard drive works well because it is easy to move and test on multiple PC's. The test will report if it finds any problems with the USB ports.

After spending the better part of a day entering and re-entering my computer serial and product numbers, asking a totally non-responsive HP "service" for answers, and reviewing EVERY unanswered post on this simple problem, this novice found the answer to this simple problem.

Merely open your mouse and touchpad settings, go to Device Settings, click settings (unless you accidently hovered there so that it already opened--great feature), click Settings, go to Tapping and UNCHECK that box-- no mas problem.

No wonder HP is dying in the computer business.

I sincerely hope this helps some poor seeker like me.

Hi, Alvin:

The only suggestion I can offer would be to try the W10 drivers for those devices...

Try manually installing from the device in the device manager and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file if the auto install doesn't work.   The files will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp#####, where ##### is the file name of the driver.

Thanks your quick reply and links.

I have tried these links however that SP74783 still doesn't work for my Windows Server 2012, it says it doesn't support this OS only for WIndows 7, and 8.1.Smiley Frustrated

Any other suggestions?

You're very welcome.

Did you try manually installing the driver as I suggested above?

Let me clarify what I mean by that...

Go to the device manager and click on the base system device needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.

Click in Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.

That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp74783.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.

Then restart the PC.

If you have tried another battery and another AC adapter then the problem is either with the power connector on the motherboard or the motherboard itself.  At this point, I would recommened servicing/replacing the notebook.

New HDD not recognized by Notebook PC

Good day,

In order to increase the capacity of the HDD we are trying to install a 1TB HGST HDD, SATA & 7200rpm.

The new HDD is not being recognized by the system. The engineer says that he is not unable to run a health check of the new HDD in order to install the OS.

We connected the HDD externally to a usb casing and still no luck. We can hear it spinning, but it is not seen in "My Computer / This PC"

The HDD is original and brand new and purchased from the authorised dealer, with a tax invoice.

This is the second time it is hapenning. HGST confirms that all the HDD's are tested for stisfactory operation prior to despatch. And are willing to replace this one too but are equally baffled.

The engineer is not able to suggest or advise.

Is there something we are not doing or that needs to be done to get this new HDD opertional / be recognised in DOS for the pre OS installation check-up, inorder to be able to install the OS?

Any help / suggestions are welcome.

Thank you
