Hi,

With a gamings laptop and 17" screen, around 3hrs life for a battery is a bonus. Many normal 17" laptops won't even go that frar.

I have the model with the I7-55000U with 8gb ram and a Nvidia 940m gpu. I was sure that my model would have the slot... this is really disappointing.  Thank you for your help.

Hello! I do hope you can help me with my spectre x360. It suddenly shut down while I was using it and it didn't start up ever since. I tried to hard reset it but eventually there was a burning smell located at the back cover of the unit and in the power socket.

What should I do with this issue? I would greatly appreciate any comments and suggestions. Thank you!

That was my post. Sent my PC to HP with F11 BIOS. HP returned it with F04. No explanation. Drain reduced significantly. I am still pushing HP for details on their repair.

Hi:

That card should work just fine as long as your notebook has two wireless antennas currently connected to the wireless card.

A lot of notebooks with the single band cards only have one antenna present and connected to the card.

You have to have two, and routing a 2nd antenna would require extensive disassembly of the notebook including the display panel area.

So, before you buy a new wireless card, confirm that you notebook has the required two antennas, or be willing and able to take the whole notebook apart to run the 2nd antenna.

Do not rely on the picture in the Maintenance and Service Guide to determine this.  I think they all show 2 antennas, and that is definitely not the case for some model wlan cards.

New laptop making crackling noise

My laptop makes a sort of crackling noise whenever it is doing something, almost like an electrical noise i.e. during start up, opening a new app or searching for something on google. It isn't a problem with the audio, and I believe it isn't a problem with the fan as the sound comes from a different part of the laptop as the fan.

Is this most likely normal and something that I should put up with or shall I take it back?

Thanks in advance!

The following may help slow-down (and perhaps eliminate) the battery discharge.

Solution offered by Forum Provost Expert Big_Dave

Fix has reportedly worked for HP Envy 17t u100 CTO):

  • Ensure that the Power Plan power off button is set to shutdown (not the solution)
  • Change settings in the BIOS:
  1. Disable fast boot (NOTE: setting is not needed with SSD)
  2. Disable USB charging port although nothing was plugged into the designated charging port.
  3. Disable Battery remaining time
  • Command prompt (admin): exe /hibernate off
  • Command prompt (admin): bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

NOTE:

This is not an HP provided "update".  The idea is offered "as is" in hopes that it will help.

HP 15 battery plugged in but not charging at 0%

My HP 15 Notebook is almost 2 years old and all of the sudden the battery stops working. I know that the battery's performance has decreased a bit but it shouldnt be dead. One day a wake up to find that it doesnt turn on so i plug n the charger and it turns on and says consider replacing the battery soon but after a few minutes i realize it says plugged in but not charging at 0% (and it wasnt at 0% when i turned it off) When I try to run a battery test in HP support assistant it keeps saying status unknown (so how can it tell that I need a new battery but cant detect it which is why i think its a glitch) and that i should remove and then re insert the battery but still nothing changes and it it telling me that I have the updated version. I've tried uninstalling the battery drivers multiple times after which i was notified that a drive was missing and had to reset my laptop (for the second time the frist being after windows 10 caused a drive to "go missing") and still nothing.

I am desperate please help me
